A Cheap but Not Nasty Place to Watch the Monsoon in Mumbai
Mumbai has some fantastic rooftop bars and restaurants overlooking water, which are great places to watch the monsoon rain. The only problem is that they're very expensive.
Therefore, when I had some time to kill in south Mumbai recently, I decided to go to the Bayview Cafe in Colaba. As its name suggests, it overlooks the bay. It's also a rooftop cafe, which is part open air and part undercover. But, it's very casual and affordable.
The food is inexpensive and tasty (expect to pay around 150 rupees for a curry) and they have special offers on beer too -- perfect for a lazy monsoon day. If beer doesn't appeal to you, do try the lemon soda. Priced at 70 rupees, it's not cheap for a lemon soda but it's the best I've ever had (the syrup that they use to sweeten it is what makes it special).
